Alpkit......

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

Last year I rattled on about always looking good and wearing padded shirts in the same sentence,

which on reflection now seems a little strange!

On my quest for stylish products I recently ventured into the new Alpkit shop in Hathersage. Now to be honest, I haven't purchased or used any of their products before, but Viv was gifted a few items by them a while ago and so I may have tried them on….jackets I might add! It was hard not to be impressed with the weight, durability and price, although according to Viv some of the woman’s sizing were a little strange.

And so I entered their new shop keen to have a look. It’s a cool space, with a good range of their products along with a few extras like Firepot and Extreme Food, some nifty dehydrated food options. Admittedly I couldn't find the blokes section initially, so after sizing up and trying on a woman's top (bit of a theme with me it seems!) I realised which bit of the shop I should be in and immediately got drawn into a mid weight top, called the Griffon. It had most of the things I mentioned last year that I like, hood, chest pocket, thumb loops, looked good, however it came with a full length zip. Funny how when you try something on, it becomes a purchase though!

Since the beginning of July I have worn it every week. It isn't the same weight as a Patagucci R1, but it has the same PowerGrid style of fleece and has provided the right amount of warmth. Combined with a thin wind proof, it's become a favourite go to option. With this warm summer the R1 would have melted me anyway! Washed every week, it still looks and feels brand new and the best part ….it was £35!! ( Normal retail price)

Now that is outstanding value! I could buy 4 for the price of a R1, so who cares if it's a bit thinner…I'll just wear 2!

Funny how the lady who served me at the till said they had become extremely popular and now you have to pre-order it…..
