SO WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
The Snowdon Horseshoe needs no introduction to anyone involved with hill walking, it is considered one of the finest ridge walks in Britain. The walk follows the narrow ridges that encircle the natural eastern cwm of Snowdon linking a number of summits together. Continuous grade 1 terrain across Crib Goch provides the focus for the 1st part of the Horseshoe, never hard, never easy and you’re always aware of the incredible situation you are in and are scrambling across! A quick visit to the summit of Snowdon, will then see you journey across Lliwedd, there are 2 summits to gain and they never seem to get closer!
Lliwedd was actually where the noted British climber George Mallory undertook many of his early climbs. It was also the site of considerable training activity for the 1953 British Everest Expedition! The complete and true Horseshoe actually goes via the last peak Gallt y Wenallt…if you fancy it!!
This is a long day in very mountainous terrain and as with all these days the weather is the determining factor and may allow us to follow the route or force us to to change. It’s always an adventure, but the key factors are that we stay safe, enjoy the walk and hopefully complete the traverse.
