Read a book
Feed your imagination by absorbing yourself in a good book, and there are truly good books out there to read, both old and new. We are currently reading Nan Shephard's The Living Mountain, and The Pen Y Gwyrd Hotel - Tales from the Smoke Room.
Visit a new destination
Now we'd all love to travel the world, but work, cash and life often get in the way. But set yourself somewhere to visit this year, it doesn't matter if it's Outer Mongolia or Outer London go and explore somewhere different to where you live.
Climb a hill
Choose somewhere you have never been, whether it is literally your local hill, scaling Ben Nevis or setting your sights on something far away. Go and look at the world around you from a different perspective.
Now I can verify the joys of swimming outside... so whether you dip your toes in the sea, enjoy a spine numbing river dip in mid winter or spend a summer evening soaking up the sunset on a glassy mountain lake, you absolutely have to go for a swim outdoors!
Learn a new skill
I took up knitting when I hurt my back, it's amazingly zen-like (honest!), it's quite something to sit in the Llanberis Pass of a sunny summer evening and quietly knit. Get geeky about something new, try anything from painting to paragliding, calligraphy to climbing, running to reiki.
Volunteer your time
Give something back, whether it's for a charity that's close to your heart or for a society or group you believe in, your time can help in all sorts of ways.
Not just saved for an ML mini break and not just for the mountains. Sleep under the stars on a warm, summer evening in a Forest, at the beach or in your own backyard!
Does anything taste as good as a marshmallow cooked on an open fire?
Visit an (tiny) Island
The UK is surrounded by islands, why not make it your mission to visit one of them this year. We have our sights set on North Uist in the Outer Hebrides, have you seen those beaches?!
We love a spot of al fresco dining here and often have our dinner at the lake or in or tiny back yard. Food always seems to taste better when it's been cooked outside in the fresh air. Forget the burgers on the BBQ, try packing your wok and turn it into a healthy stir fry, a slow cooked squash stuffed with delights or smoking a salmon instead... mmm!
